Product label redesign
Why Redesign Matters?
Products sometimes need a visual refresh to stay relevant and competitive. A design audit paired with research into current market trends and competitor packaging can make all the difference — especially in crowded e-commerce environments. The goal is simple: be visible, stand out, and sell more. When a product looks outdated or gets lost among similar listings, a thoughtful redesign can renew interest and boost conversions.
The Brief: A Redesign for Amazon
I was commissioned to redesign the label for a magnesium oil product sold on Amazon. Because Amazon’s search results display dozens of products at once, the main image must instantly stop the scroll and capture attention. A compelling label and primary visual are essential to increase click-through rates and make the product stand out from the competition.
Research is the Foundation
Before touching any layout, I dive deep into research. This means studying direct competitors, identifying design trends in health and wellness packaging, and gathering visual inspiration from platforms like Pinterest to understand what performs well in the category. The insights are then translated into a conceptual moodboard, which sets the visual direction before design begins.
Exploring Multiple Concepts
Design is about exploration and refinement. To ensure the best outcome, I always develop several concept directions. Multiple versions allow us to test different visual approaches, hierarchy systems, typography combinations, and positioning strategies. This helps align the final design with both the product’s benefits and the brand’s identity — and gives the client choice and clarity.
Main Image Strategy for Amazon
Designing the main image isn’t just about pretty graphics — it’s about communication. For Amazon, the main image must convey key benefits, quality cues, and product identity at thumbnail size. Using a mockup of the carton packaging within the main image helps visually anchor the product and present its benefits clearly, enhancing both credibility and conversion potential.
Strategic Visual Outcomes
The result of this redesign process is a label and image system that’s visually stronger, more competitive, and better adapted to online retail psychology. Packaging design influences purchase decisions instantly — especially in e-commerce where visual cues are everything. An effective redesign not only refreshes the look but improves clarity, reinforces brand value, and ultimately supports better sales performance.
